Reorienting tourism education with digital, social and intercultural competences to support local stakeholders tackle strategic innovation in heritage tourism
The main learning objective of the MOOC is to enable students of the Tourism Faculty to create a dissertation template delivering a Local Attraction Plan based on one local tourism asset they choose.
The MOOC consists of five modules, all connected. You have to carefully study the modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 to understand each assignment. Module 5 is the “Dissertation Template”, which, when completed, proves the holder’s acquired skills
Each of the 4 Modules has a mandatory assignment. When you complete the four assignments, your Dissertation template is ready, delivering the Local Attraction Plan (LAP).
STEP 01: The Assignment of Module 01 is called “PILOT PROJECT SCOPE”. It is concerned with the scope of the individual project connected to a cultural heritage asset. By filling in the available template the project scope is completed and students get to learn basic aspects of tourism planning.
STEP 02: The Assignment for Module 02 is called “AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT FORM”. It is concerned with the target groups that are most suitable for the selected cultural heritage assets. It is also concerned with the question of the stakeholders and their role in tourism planning. By filling in the available template students learn how to select their audiences and target markets and how to cope with stakeholders.
STEP 03: The Assignment for Module 03 is called “STANDARD ASSET PLANNING FORM”. It is concerned with tourism planning steps such as spatial and economic parameters the significance of cultural heritage, the interpretation of heritage and storytelling. By filling in the available template students learn how to design and deliver a cultural heritage attraction for tourism uses.
STEP 04: The Assignment for Module 04 is called “EVALUATION AND CHECKLIST FORM”. It is concerned with the overall evaluation of the Assignments 1, 2 and 3. By filling in the available template students learn how evaluate the final outcome and how to make corrections
PREREQUISITE: Each student needs to select a cultural heritage asset of interest, preferably in the own country, prior to attempting the completion of the assignments.
To guide you in the learning process, the MOOC provides you with a series of international examples embedded in the Modules via hyperlinks. Additionally the project partners have created their Local Attraction Plan with 30 cultural heritage assets in Turkey, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands and Greece. Each one is available as an open access learning resource (OER). In this way student may compare with the international experience and be guided to successfully complete the Dissertation Template. Additionally a series of multimedia resources in the format of SMORE are added to the MOOC
The University students can contact the tutors directly in case of any questions. They can also profit from the international experience by addressing the creators of the 6 Local Attraction Plans in Turkey, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Netherlands.
